Description
This Bitcoin seed phrase dice set contains two numbered 16-sided dice and one numbered 8-sided die for Blockstream’s documented D16/D16/D8 recovery-phrase method. One ordered throw has 16 x 16 x 8 = 2,048 possible outcomes, matching the 2,048 entries in the BIP39 English word list.
Each throw selects one provisional BIP39 word. Generate the first 11 words of a 12-word phrase or the first 23 words of a 24-word phrase, then use a compatible offline signer to add the remaining entropy and calculate the checksum-bearing final word.
What Is Included
- 2 x numbered 16-sided dice, with faces 1 through 16
- 1 x numbered 8-sided die, with faces 1 through 8
- Dice colors vary by available batch

Correct Dice Order
The official lookup table labels the dice in this order:
- D1: first 16-sided die
- D2: second 16-sided die
- D3: 8-sided die
Keep the two d16 dice distinguishable by color, position, or a consistent left/right rule established before each throw. Reversing D1 and D2 changes the selected word.

How to Generate the First 11 or 23 Words
- Work offline and privately, away from cameras and other people.
- Assign the two d16 dice as D1 and D2; the d8 is D3.
- Roll all three dice together and record the ordered D1, D2, and D3 results.
- Use the official Blockstream lookup table to find the corresponding provisional word.
- Return the dice and repeat until you have 11 words for a 12-word phrase or 23 words for a 24-word phrase.
- Use a compatible offline signer to supply the final entropy bits and calculate a valid checksum word.
- Write down the complete phrase, verify it, and perform a recovery test before depositing meaningful funds.
Why the Final Word Is Different
BIP39 appends a checksum to the original entropy before converting it into words. In a 12-word phrase, the final word contains 7 entropy bits and 4 checksum bits. In a 24-word phrase, it contains 3 entropy bits and 8 checksum bits. The first 11 or 23 dice-selected words therefore do not determine a complete full-strength phrase by themselves.
SeedSigner’s final-word tool can accept 7 or 3 fresh coin flips for the remaining entropy before calculating the checksum. Jade can calculate valid final-word options through its documented recovery-phrase workflow. Follow the current instructions for the exact device and do not assume every wallet handles the final word identically.
Numbered Dice and the Official Table
This set uses faces numbered 1 through 16 and 1 through 8, matching the values shown in Blockstream’s lookup table. Hex-labeled dice use 0 through 9 and A through F and require a different reading convention. Do not mix the two conventions.
Compatible Offline Workflows
| Tool | Documented role |
|---|---|
| Blockstream Jade | Enter the first 11 or 23 words, then calculate or select a valid final word using Jade’s documented process. |
| SeedSigner | Use the Calculate 12th/24th Word tool and add 7 or 3 final entropy bits when following the physical-entropy workflow. |
| Other BIP39 signers | Use only when the manufacturer documents final-word calculation from 11 or 23 words. |
