Received the unit in record time, it was packed well and nothing broken...Will be getting it setup soon now that I've got my NerdOctaxe Gamma, Jade Wallet.

This is a great small home server! I was able to install Bitcoin Knots with a Full node and I was able to also point my two miners Canaan Avalon Q and Nerdaxe++ to that full node, they been active and Hashing higher than expected. Just keep in mind that the miners cannot communicate with the Start9 server because they don’t speak the same language. Since miners speak Stratum and the node speak Bitcoin RPC, I installed Public Pool to act as the middleman, you can use Public Pool or Datum Gateway for solo mining, they’re inside the start9 server marketplace, to configure this you also need to access the command line from a computer in the same network as the miner and the server, and follow instructions in the Public Pool to install a simple proxy.. I used my phone with Termius app to SSH into the StartOS chrooted environment. I manually installed and configured simpleproxy to forward Port 3333, allowing my hardware miners to communicate with the sandboxed Public Pool app. It sounds geeky and technical but it really not that much, just following instructions, it works! Im happy with the purchases.

Honestly I was intimidated by the idea of running my own server but this was shockingly simple to setup. No command line stuff, no flashing anything, it just works out of the box.

I wanted to run my own Bitcoin node and stop trusting third partys with my transactions. This thing made it way easier then I expected. StartOS was already installed so I literally just plugged it in, connected ethernet, and opened my browser. Had Bitcoin Core syncing within like 10 minutes and it finished overnight. Now I point all my Bitaxes at my own node through Public Pool and its the full sovereign setup.

I bought a Start9 Server One 4/32. All in all, very satisfied, with peace of mind knowing I am now sovereign! It was a little challenging to set up at first. I started with Start9's online setup guidance then found a great live, detailed walkthrough by 'Southern Bitcoiner' on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzikmY4S42Y) and referenced Start9 docs to double-check. Solo, you should create a walkthrough video! - a great way to get your name out there and support existing patrons. Post-setup, the server is not a permanent set and forget. I traveled for work for a week and came back and my server was not responding despite the network active and working, so I would consider directing the back-up address for your miner to a separate pool for safe keeping. A quick restart of the server fixed the issue quickly. I wish there was an easier, secure and offline way to direct my node to my BitKey (e.g., via direct plug-in); this is more of a BitKey-Electrum issue vs Start9. I found a decent workaround on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/BitkeyWallet/comments/1domprn/electrum_server/). Obviously not ideal for those wanting true sovereignty, privacy and security. In the meantime, I've directed my to mine Sparrow wallet and will consider adding a Jade key as an additional, physical security layer.

I'll be honest, I didn't fully understand what self hosting meant until I plugged this thing in. I bought the Start9 Server One from Solo Satoshi mainly because I wanted to run my own Bitcoin node to verify my transactions, but once I got into StartOS I realized this little box does way more than that. The setup was almost too easy. It came with StartOS already installed so there was no flashing, no command line, nothing intimidating. I plugged in the Ethernet cable, opened my browser, and the dashboard was right there. Within an hour I had Bitcoin Core syncing and it finished in less than a day.

I'm going to be honest here. The server itself is great. Silent, fast, has been running great since I plugged it in with no issues. Start OS is where I encountered some issues. Partially my fault for not doing more research prior to my purchase. Out of the box and after setup is complete you can install Bitcoin Core, or change the marketplace from the start9 default and install Bitcoin Knots. Great! Then to connect your Bitaxes/Nerdaxes you need to install additional services like electrs, Mempool, and Public pool. This is where things went downhill. To connect your miners to public pool You have to SSH into the server to enable things so your miners can connect. The instructions on the app were not great, but the wiki was a bit better. This isn't the out of the box experience I was hoping for. I was thinking this would be more of a click to install, everything is secure, and I don't have to jack with the settings to get it to work. Not the case. After spending a while messing with it, I got frustrated and set it aside. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, I wanted to have the option of mining other coins like BCH and DGB and whatever else I wanted to add and StartOS didn't have them available that I could find. Side Note: I previously set up a bitcoin node on a Raspberry Pi 5 and did all the configuration manually to make sure it was running smoothly, staying up to date, and above all secure. I'm no expert but I'm not a novice either. About a week later I came across some information on StratumOS. I installed StratumOS onto the Start9 server one, and I have been much happier with the experience. THIS is what I was originally looking for. Easy to setup and deploy and monitor my miners all in one package. I don't need anything extra running on it. Also easy to set up additional nodes for mining other coins. So, I give four stars because the hardware itself is solid and to be honest the OS isn't terrible, just not the plug and play setup I was hoping it would be. I may eventually try startOS again. I'll keep a lookout for updates, but for now I'm happy with my start9 server running StratumOS.

Thanks for the detailed review, Nick! We're glad the hardware has been rock solid for you, that's always the foundation. You raise a fair point about the learning curve with Start9's self-hosted mining stack. Running Public Pool with electrs and Mempool does require some SSH configuration that isn't immediately intuitive, and we appreciate you being upfront about that experience. The good news is there's a new update coming that will make the setup process much easier, so it's definitely worth keeping an eye out. Regarding mining other coins like BCH and DGB, Solo Satoshi is a Bitcoin-focused company, and Start9 shares that same philosophy. That said, StartOS is fully open source, so if there's a service or feature you'd like to see that doesn't exist yet, the door is always open to build it or contribute to the project. That's the beauty of open-source software. We'll continue working with both Start9 and the broader community to help improve documentation and make the self-sovereign mining experience as smooth as possible. Enjoy the setup and happy mining!

I am enjoying the Start9 Server One (2026). It was easy to setup, sync'd quickly running Bitcoin Node. I set up an Electrs server and got my Sparrow wallet connected. Running Solo Pool for my home miners! In total control of my bitcoin journey!
