Description

Entropia v2 is a physical entropy set based on the open-source SeedSigner SeedPills project. It contains 1,024 double-sided tablets whose 2,048 faces uniquely identify every word in the BIP39 English list. A private draw selects a provisional seed word without relying on a software random-number generator for that draw.

Entropia supplies the first 121 bits for a 12-word phrase or the first 253 bits for a 24-word phrase. A compatible offline signer must still add the remaining 7 or 3 entropy bits and calculate the checksum-bearing final word.

How Entropia Generates Physical Entropy

A uniformly selected tablet provides one of 1,024 possibilities, and a fair face selection provides one of two sides. Together, that creates 2,048 possible outcomes, equal to 11 bits. For the calculation to hold, the tablets must be mixed thoroughly, each side must have a fair chance to face up, and the selected tablet must be returned before the next draw.

Eleven draws supply 121 physical entropy bits. Twenty-three draws supply 253 physical entropy bits. BIP39 requires 128 bits for a 12-word phrase or 256 bits for a 24-word phrase, so the final word must add 7 or 3 more entropy bits before its checksum is calculated.

How to Generate a Seed Phrase With Entropia

1. Verify the set: Before separation, confirm the 8 full alphabetized sheets and compare the prefixes with the official BIP39 English word list.
2. Separate the tablets: Carefully detach the pieces and place the complete set in a clean opaque bowl or container.
3. Mix thoroughly: Ensure every tablet can be selected and neither color or position is favored.
4. Select a tablet and face: Draw one tablet without looking, use a neutral drop or flip to select the upward face, and record its word.
5. Replace and remix: Return the tablet after every draw so all 2,048 face outcomes remain possible and repeated words remain valid.
6. Repeat: Record 11 words for a 12-word phrase or 23 words for a 24-word phrase.
7. Complete the final word: On a compatible offline signer, add 7 fresh coin flips for 12 words or 3 for 24 words, then calculate the BIP39 checksum.
8. Verify recovery: Back up the complete phrase and test the recovery path before depositing meaningful funds.

Why Replacement and Remixing Matter

Return the tablet after each draw. Drawing without replacement changes the number of available outcomes and prevents legitimate repeated words. Mix again before every selection and do not reject a word because it appeared earlier.

Completing the Final Word Safely

The final BIP39 word contains both entropy and checksum bits. SeedSigner’s Calculate 12th/24th Word tool can take the first 11 or 23 words, accept 7 or 3 coin flips for the remaining entropy, and calculate the checksum. Blockstream Jade also documents final-word calculation, but its exact prompts differ.

If a tool fills the remaining entropy bits with zeros or chooses them internally, the final phrase is not derived exclusively from the Entropia draws. Follow the current device instructions and understand which source supplies those last bits.
