Introduction
Bitaxe is a community driven effort to decentralize Bitcoin mining, which means open-source developers are always improving the Bitaxe firmware that controls your miner’s function, to allow it to run more secure and efficient. Today Solo Satoshi will walk you through how to update your Bitaxe firmware through AxeOS and the Bitaxe Webflasher.
Updating Firmware Through AxeOS/WebUI
Getting Started
- Navigate to AxeOS on your computer or phone using the IP address displayed on your device’s LED screen.
- Select the settings tab.

- Navigate to the bottom of the settings page and locate the “Latest Releases” box.
- Click the check button.

- If AxeOS does not locate a new firmware version, you’re up to date on firmware and no changes need to be made.
- If AxeOS does locate a firmware version that’s more up to date than your current version, it will display it next to latest release.
- Select esp-miner.bin to download the latest release to your computer or phone.

- Once downloaded, the new firmware file will save to your computer or phone’s recent downloads.
- Put the new firmware file in an easy to find location on your computer or phone.
- You may have to rename the new firmware file, if it does not download as esp-miner.bin
- Assuring correct file name is important.
- AxeOS will only accept firmware files named esp-miner.bin.
- Put the new firmware file in an easy to find location on your computer or phone.

- Navigate back to settings and locate “Update Firmware” on the bottom of the settings screen.
- Select “Browse” to search for the newly downloaded firmware file.

- Once you’ve located the new firmware file, select it, to upload into AxeOS.
- Uploading the firmware file may take around 60 seconds.

- Once a green flag with the words “Success! Firmware updated” appears, the new firmware is successfully installed on your Bitaxe.

- If a red flag appears that says “Failed”, there may be an issue with the firmware file name, or incorrect firmware.
- You can find the open-source firmware files at the official Bitaxe.org website here: Releases · bitaxeorg/ESP-Miner
- If you source firmware from the official GitHub, be sure to select the correct model number and Bitaxe.

Updating Firmware Using the Bitaxe Webflasher
What You’ll Need
- A desktop or laptop with a USB or port.

- A USB-C cable that has data transmission capability.

- A Bitaxe power supply.
- Make sure your power supply has the correct output voltage for your specific device.

Getting Started.
- Power on your device using the power supply.

- Head over to bitaxeorg.github.io/bitaxe-web-flasher/ to update Bitaxe firmware.

- Press the connect button.

- Plug the USB cable into your computer.
- Press and hold the Boot button on the left side of your Bitaxe for 3 seconds.
- Plug the USB-C cable into your Bitaxe.
- The Web Flasher will now recognize your device.

- Select your device and click the connect button.

- Once successfully connected, your Web Flasher will display the screen below.

- Select your correct model type.
- For this example, we will be using the Bitaxe Supra.
- Be sure to select your correct model.

- Select your correct board version.
- For this example, we will be using board version 401.
- Please be sure to select your correct board version.

- Select the version of firmware that you want to flash.
- It’s recommended to flash the latest firmware version for the latest bug fixes.

- Press the start flashing button to begin flashing the updated firmware to your device.

- The Bitaxe Web Flasher will now begin flashing the updated firmware to your device.
- Please do not disconnect your device during this time.

- Once your device has successfully been flashed, the below message will appear.

- You may now click the disconnect button at the top of the menu.

Congratulations, you’ve successfully completed your Bitaxe firmware update!
